Moscow State Circus

Welcome to the Magical World of Circus!

The Moscow State Circus returns to the UK with this once in a life time opportunity to see this award winning show LEGENDA. Bringing with it a huge cast of Russia's greatest and most talented circus performers here in Birmingham for a special Christmas extravaganza. Many of the critically acclaimed acts are pushing the boundary of human physical ingenuity to its limits and will be performing in Birmingham for the very first time.

However this time the greatest show on earth has had a face lift and been revolutionised. The worlds most famous circus collides with the legendary Russian folklore figure Rasputin to create a sensational show that combines contemporary & classical circus at it’s very best.

Rasputin was often described as a romantic, a mystic & a visionary. Words that could easily be used to describe this new spectacle. Entitled LEGENDA, his vivid dreams will form the theme of the show, entwined with the pride of Russia’s most magnificent circus artistes and state of the art special effects.

The newly devised show includes The Didyk, a double Russian swing troupe acrobatically catapulting themselves high into the big top & across the ring . Gregory's Girls suspended in mid-air on floating silks. Doctorovs unbelievable Human Statues and breathtaking balancing action which defy gravity and the laws of physics. Bortnikova body twisting contortionists. Award-winning clowns,Valik & Valerik, who have perfected the art of slapstick and Buster Keeton style cunning capers. Kvlividze Troupe on the rotating Wheel of death & the unbelievable crossbow act of The Popazovs, you will see a wife shoot an apple off her husbands head from 7 simultaneous crossbows. All hosted by Andre Voronin as Rasputin.

The Venue.
Star City provided the perfect backdrop for this unique show, housed in a centrally heated, specially designed luxury chapiteau theatre big top. It is uniquely domed to accommodate the complex rigging for the aerial acts, it is supported by only four “king” poles so as not to obscure the audiences view.

The Legend.
Gregory Rasputin This specially created show, Legenda, is based around the vivid dreams of one or Russia's most famous characters Gregory Rasputin. His remarkable life began in the Siberian Village of Pokrovskoe in 1869. Up to the age of 28 he lived the life of a peasant, working on the land. Often in trouble with the locals, no one could imagine his sudden transformation after a chance conversation about God with a friend and future Bishop of the region. This had a profound effect on Rasputin's mind as he was told to go out in search of the “Angelic Bread Of The Human Soul”. So during the next 5 years he became a pilgrim, a “strannik” with mysterious journeys across Russia and even further afield to Jerusalem and the Holy land. Through this time his prophecies and powers of healing made him famous with people from all social backgrounds with many flocking to hear his sermons. His enigmatic personality endeared him to the highest social circles and finally in October 1906 he was granted an audience with Tsar Nicolay II and Tsarina Alexandra. This meeting was to lead to a devastating affect of political and personal history of Russia and the Romanov dynasty. His many visions at this time included ones of escape. An escape into a world far far removed from the treachery and turmoil of early 20th century Russia. A place of strength and beauty, a place of laughter and joy, a place of LEGENDA, the monk's dream!
